About Dan

Family

I have two brothers, Jim and Chris, both younger than me; my parents are Larry and Jean. I’ve lived in Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

Education

I went to Wilbert Snow Elementary School in Middletown, Connecticut, Fields Memorial School in Bozrah, Connecticut, and Montville High School in Montville, Connecticut. I didn’t go to college or any other post-high school education.

The Job

Have a look at my resume, if your interested. Last updated in October of 2005.

Through high school I did quite a bit of freelance work, primarily publishing—producing newsletters, posters and the like for various groups.

After graduating high school in 1994 I went to work at the ARRL. I started as a Production Assistant (“desktop publisher”) in the Production Department, a temporary and part-time (4 days/week) job; a few months later it became a permanent, full-time job. In late 1996, the ARRL web site was gaining popularity; I switched jobs to work in the Electronic Publications Branch as an Electronic Publications Production Assistant (“web monkey”). Evenutally I began to assist in producing ARRL’s CD-ROM products and moved away from the web stuff. I’ve held several jobs in the EPB—currently as the Project Manager. I’m now responsible for producing nearly all of the CD-ROM products, handle all of the software technical support, maintain a color-managed environment for the Production and Graphics staff, and consult on a number of electronic publishing topics (including Adobe Acrobat and PDF, and color management, to name just a few). A few of my photos have been published by the ARRL, and I’m doing more and more photography for them. My employment at the ARRL ended in September, 2005.

In October, 2005, I started working at NETS doing book production, though this has shifted over to quality control and template creation.

In April, 2007, Sherree and I started uiNNOVATIONS, LLC, web development company focused primarily on Movable Type.

Fun Stuff

I’ve been active in Boy Scouts since my parents brought me to a Tiger Cubs meeting in 1983. I’ve been a computer geek since my Dad got an Apple IIe in the mid-80s. I’ve always considered myself an artist—experimenting with pencil, charcoal, airbrush, and clay—but my creative outlet since around 1995 has been photography.
