Holbrook Pond in Hebron, CT

I visited Holbrook Pond in late summer, which is definitely not the time to go paddling there: the pond was packed with underwater vegetation. Paddling was a big challenge! Mid-way through the loop I gave up and headed back to the boat launch. As I returned, a fisherman informed me that the pond is a good place to paddle in the spring and fall, but there’s just too much vegetation for it to be a good paddle in the summer.

That said, I think the pond is worth visiting. It’s secluded, quiet, has lots of wildlife (I saw herons, terns, turtles, and geese), and there appears to be a trail around the pond that is worth a walk. The boat launch entrance is off of route 85.
