Male Northern Flicker

After having accepted that I could only get a bad photo of the yellow-shafted northern flicker, I was excited to see how willing he was to pose for me on the feeder.

The northern flicker is a pretty big bird — typically just over 12 inches — to be hanging off of the feeder. In fact, I think this is the only frame-filling photo I’ve taken where I have not needed full zoom. (I can reach out to 400 mm; this was shot at 380 mm.)
