The Incredibles Review

At this point, I don't think Pixar can make a bad movie, and The Incredibles is no exception. It was a very funny film, though I think part of why I laughed so much is my familiarity with comic books and their characters.

The animation was excellent. Two things stood out to me: in many areas--particularly fast action scenes--animation looked very realistic to me. I almost wonder if it wasn't live-action with the characters placed in the scene after the fact. The other thing I noticed about the animation was that in many scenes I felt like I was watching a claymation movie--texture and detail in skin and clothing as well as movement just reminded me of how claymation can look.

I enjoyed the story, though how it came together surprised me. I didn't check my watch so I can't say exactly how the movie was broken up, but it felt to me like an inordinate amount of time was spent on the background of the characters; I was surprised how late in the story the villain finally came on-screen. This isn't a bad thing, though, as the story centers on the Parr family ("the Incredibles"), not the hero-villian dynamic.
