Our Weekend in Rhode Island
We spent this past weekend in Rhode Island to relax and de-stress a bit. It wasn't a terribly exciting time, but we saw and did a few things.
On Saturday morning we did the Cliff Walk in Newport. The Cliff Walk is supposed to wind along the shore, behind several of the mansions there. Unfortunately, the last mile (or so) was closed for repairs--a significant piece since the whole trip is only a little more than 3 miles. Add in that so much of the brush was overgrown so that you couldn't see many of the mansions, and the walk was pretty much a bust.
We spent the afternoon walking around downtown Newport like typical tourists. This was almost more rewarding than the Cliff Walk because we knew what to expect and weren't disappointed with what we saw. We got some good cookies at The Cookie Jar and had dinner at the Black Pearl, which really does make some amazing clam chowder.
How the Cliff Walk and Newport got included in 1,000 Places to See Before You Die, I'll never know; it must rank as number 999 or 1,000. We weren't impressed.
On Sunday we decided to stop at the Roger Williams Park and Zoo. We've been there a few other times and always like it. We were disappointed the Polar Bears weren't there, though.
...And then we had to get home to be grown-ups and do laundry and housework.
