Gary Unmarried Review

I’ve been pleasantly surprised with Gary Unmarried. I didn’t expect much of it because I never particularly like Jay Mohr (or at least, didn’t think he could lead a show); on the other hand I liked Paula Marshall in Spin City and even The Wonder Years.

Gary Unmarried isn’t an original show and falls back on a lot of the same comedy ideas of the ’80s and ’90s sitcoms, most notably the surprised reaction to something we could all see coming. I suppose that kind of predictable comedy — perhaps more original in The Cosby Show and others — is what makes me like it.
